Hong Kong already enjoys plenty of freedoms and rights well before this crisis - freedom of speech, thought, expression, association, assembly, religion, travel, right to life, own things, education, protection under the law, trial, social securities, etc. There are not many places in the world that can provide all these, which is why Hong Kong is always ranked as one of the top cities. The authority here has such accommodative policy towards organized street marches (as long as they are non-violent) that it seems like there are peaceful demonstrations almost every other weekend.
From what’s happening over the last few months, more and more of these freedoms and rights have been tampered by the so-called “pro-democracy” protestors. Their actions are so contrary to the democratic movement that at times, appear more Nazi-like 'bunker mentality' in handling of the Jews. They attempt to impose their ways onto others by intimidating ordinary citizens from voicing out opposing views, even to the point of tyrannizing and physically assaulting. They are carrying out arson attacks on individual and public facilities, targeting non-conforming businesses simply because of affiliation, segregating the masses, vandalizing public and private properties, enforcing propaganda blitz and controlling the media coverage by restricting individuals from recording their actions.
The only thing these youths have achieved and shown to the world is that "one country, two systems" does not work. Most of them have yet to contribute to the society. Since they have no ownership, hence they have no reservation in destroying the works of others. All this will come back in 2047 to haunt Hong Kong youths of this generation....especially those who have been arrested. Better seek asylum in another country.
