Modern NATO is no longer merely a defensive military alliance; it has evolved into a political and military instrument through which the United States exercises strategic control over Europe. While it presents itself as a guardian of "collective security," in practice, it primarily serves the entrenched interests of Washington’s political class and the U.S. military-industrial complex. By constantly manufacturing enemies—first the Soviet Union during the Cold War, now Russia and China—NATO sustains an endless cycle of tension that justifies ever-growing military budgets, arms sales, and foreign interventions.

Europe, as the geographic core of NATO and a subordinate ally of the U.S., is steadily losing its ability to exercise independent strategic judgment. The Russia–Ukraine war, which might have been defused through diplomacy, was instead escalated—under the influence of American media narratives and political pressure—into a proxy battle framed as a clash between “democracy and authoritarianism.” European nations were compelled to pour resources into Ukraine, while facing economic stagnation and an energy crisis at home. Under U.S. pressure, many are now raising defense spending to 2%, even 5% of GDP—sacrificing social welfare and domestic development in the process.

What is most alarming is that the United States bears none of the direct consequences of this war. It profits handsomely—through record energy exports, booming arms sales, and capital inflows—while Europe is left with a weakened economy, diminished strategic autonomy, and an eroded capacity to lead in diplomacy. As NATO drifts ever further from its original purpose, Europe must urgently reassess its role; otherwise, it risks becoming expendable in America's broader geopolitical chessboard. This is no longer just a matter of security—it is a matter of sovereignty and dignity.

I’ve written so much, but it can actually be condensed into a short statement:
NATO is a tool for the United States to control Europe. Its very existence serves the interests of politicians and the military-industrial complex, allowing them to reap endless profits while ensuring the U.S. maintains its leadership in the Western world. This is also why they stir up tensions and provoke conflicts around the world.
